ONERO™ Program at Symmetry Physiotherapy

A physiotherapist supervised exercise program designed for people with osteoporosis or osteopenia. We combine targeted strength and safe impact training to support bone health, balance and confidence.

What is Onero™?

Onero™ is a supervised, bone-targeted strength training program created specifically for people with osteopenia or osteoporosis. It is delivered exclusively by Onero-accredited clinicians. The Onero™ program is run in small group classes that include high-intensity resistance training and carefully coached impact loading. This highly structured and specific exercise protocol is scientifically proven to stimulate bone, improve muscle strength, improve posture and balance, and help reduce fracture risk.

  • 40 % reduction in fracture risk
  • Increased lumbar spine bone mineral density +3–4 % (over 12 months)

How the program works at Symmetry Physiotherapy

Your Onero™ journey begins with an individual assessment to understand your health history, physical limitations and goals. In this assessment we will conduct a thorough physical examination to ensure we tailor each exercise to your level. You’ll then join small, supervised classes held twice weekly, led by an Onero-accredited Physiotherapist. Each session focuses on safe, progressive exercises designed to build strength and improve bone health, with regular reviews to track your progress.

Resistance exercises tailored to your level that gradually, increase in difficulty (e.g., hip hinge/“deadlift” patterns, weighted lifts)

Gentle impact drills introduced safely and progressed when appropriate

Posture and balance strategies to reduce fall risk

Education on daily bone-healthy habits, confidence with lifting and moving

Benefits of Onero™

Proven to increase bone strength & muscle mass

Specifically designed exercises place safe, controlled loads on the bones, stimulating bone remodelling. Over time, you should see improvements in bone density and gains in muscle mass—especially in key areas like the hips and spine.

Reduced risk of fractures & falls

By strengthening muscles and improving coordination, Onero™ helps your body respond better to everyday challenges—making you more resilient to slips or missteps.

Improved balance & posture

Core, postural and balance work supports better alignment, control and stability—reducing strain in day-to-day movements and helping you feel more upright and confident.

Safe for people with low bone density

The program is specifically designed for those with osteopenia or osteoporosis. With careful screening, supervised progression, and modifications when needed, you can train strongly—with safety built into every step.

FAQ

Do I need a referral?
No. Referrals are welcome but not required. If you have a care plan from your GP, bring the paperwork so we can advise on options.

Is high-intensity training safe with osteoporosis?
Yes—when properly screened, coached and supervised. We tailor loads to you and progress gradually.

How soon will I notice changes?
Many people feel stronger and more confident within 4–6 weeks; bone changes take longer and are usually monitored via your routine DEXA schedule.

Can I keep doing my other exercise?
Usually yes. We’ll help you blend Onero with walking, Pilates, hydrotherapy or gym work sensibly.
